Win edges Culter ever nearer to title

Culter took another huge step towards the title with a comfortable victory against Lewis United at Crombie Park. The Deesiders are now only two points behind leaders Hall Russell United with four games in hand. The home side pushed forward in the early stages with Jamie McAllister going close with a good attempt.

United did have a couple of half chances but both Steve Robertson and Mike McKinnon shot well wide of target. With 15 minutes played Lewis McKimmie had a try which cannoned off the post and away to safety. Culter took the lead in controversial fashion in the 35th minute when sub Mike Taylor, on for the injured Richard Wyness, scored with a good finish but he looked offside when he collected the ball. Allan Youngson then set up the same player but on this occasion Rhys Fyfe pulled off a good save. Moments later Jamie McAllister had a chance but his header was saved by the Lewis ‘keeper. Culter went two up just before the break when a fantastic Allan Youngson free kick completely foxed the Lewis ‘keeper and flew into the back of the net.

United were thrown a lifeline early in the second half when Steve Robertson scored following a corner. The game was over as a contest in the sixty-five minutes when good play by Mike Taylor set up Ryan Stott who blasted the ball home. The Deesiders sealed all three points late on when Mike Taylor got his double to propel the title favourites into second place in the league.
