Jazz Duo performs as part of Virtually St Margaret’s series
Aberdeen Jazz Duo Neil Birse and Peter Lowit are now streaming as part pf the special series of online concerts from St Margaret’s Church.
Peter and Neil have been playing together for the past ten years, often as a piano bass duet around hotels in Aberdeen.
They met when Peter was teaching workshops for the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland with Neil being one of the students.
Aberdeen born Neil is a classically trained jazz pianist. A recent graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, he is passionate about performance and education.
Teachers whilst at Guildhall include Nikki Isles, Malcolm Edmonstone, Jason Rebello, Gareth Williams and Steve Watts.
Prior to Guildhall, Neil was pianist for the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland, touring for several years around the UK.
Peter Lowit is a self taught musician who has been playing double bass for over 40 years, mainly in jazz and dance bands. He learned his craft working with with local musicians such as Mune Angus, Frank Stephenson and Bill Kemp. In the early 1990s he started playing in the house bands at the Lemon Tree and Blue Lamp accompanying visiting jazz musicians from all over the world.
He has also played in Stavanger, Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee and Edinburgh Jazz Festivals.
