Budding photographers capture Deeside at its best

Pupils at Aboyne Academy have been getting snap happy as the winners are announced for this year’s Rotary Club photography competition.

Over the last two months Aboyne and Upper Deeside Rotary Club sponsored their annual photography competition for pupils of Aboyne Academy.

With senior pupils snowed under in the final busy weeks of classes and exam revision, the competition proved the ideal opportunity to take a well-earned break from studying and get out for some fresh air.

This year’s theme was “Everyday Life in Upper Deeside.” A large number of entries were received from all year groups within the school with many wide-ranging and interesting interpretations of the competition theme.

The four winners were James Knowles (S2), Stella Gooding (S3), Callum Kitching (S3) and Cameron Wood (S6).

The budding photographers were presented with prizes by Rotary members John Halkett, Ron Drever and Ruth Powell.

The Rotary Club also gifted a frame containing all four winning pictures, which will be hung in the school reception area.

The annual photography competition is just one of the initiatives supported by Aboyne and Upper Deeside Rotary Club within Aboyne Academy, including the Rotary Youth Leadership Award scheme, the Young Musician of The Year competition and the annual Aboyne Academy Awards Ceremony.
