Sci-fi movie was made in Deeside

Deeside’s beauty, already known around the world, will be taken to other planets with the release of a new film, Beyond .

Due for release in the UK in January, Beyond is already available for pre-order on Amazon.

The feature film, which was made in 2012/2013, was mostly shot in and around Banchory and other parts of Aberdeenshire.

Elizabeth Brown, producer, was a Banchory resident for 18 years and a student at the town’s Academy.

She said: “It was such a pleasure to shoot a film in the area and I’d love to share the success with all of the people who helped us in the production.

“The local community and many of my friends who are still in the area were incredibly supportive of the film and often asked me how they could get a hold of it.”

Elizabeth is managing director of London-based film production company, Bigview Media.

In 2012, Lizzie brought the film industry to Deeside and produced Beyond, starring Paul Brannigan (The Angel’s Share) and Gillian MacGregor (A Lonely Place To Die).

The feature film, which is largely set in a post apocalyptic Scotland, features many recognisable local spots around Banchory and Aberdeenshire, including the River Dee, Crathes Hall, St Cyrus Beach, Cowie Beach and the Cairn O’Mount.

Not only that, many local residents - including some of Lizzie’s peers from Banchory Academy - took part in the production, some of whom can be spotted as featured extras.

The Internet Movie Data Base descrides the film thus: “For a brief moment in history, the world stood still. All eyes and minds focused on the skies and the colossal, unidentified object that was discovered on a collision course with Earth. Now, shrouded in mystery, the vast alien spacecraft looms ominously in sight above Northern Europe bringing with it an uncertain future. Amidst the chaos of the ensuing global catastrophe one young couple, searching for their infant daughter, their lost relationship and the hope of salvation embark on a perilous journey across a beautiful but treacherous landscape.”

Following a successful premier at the Sci-Fi London Film Festival, Beyond will be released in the UK on January 12, 2015,

The trailer has already garnered over 850,000 views on YouTube and Bigview Media has now secured an international Sales Agent and achieved North American and Latin American Distribution.
